Ethnic repatriates are individuals who return or relocate to a country with which they have historical, cultural, or blood ties. Most often, it concerns descendants of people who left their homeland due to war, migration, deportations, shifting borders, or political persecution.
In 2025, many states officially recognize this right and provide simplified procedures for acquiring citizenship by descent. Repatriation programs are created to preserve national identity, strengthen ties with diasporas, and restore demographic balance.
